Volunteers are an important human resource to an organization. They bring a passion for the cause, a commitment to the purpose and are motivated by their choice of involvement.
Why Should You Volunteer in RGPFCGA?
A volunteer is a person who has chosen to give his or her time, skills, talent and expertise to a worth while group or cause without concern for monetary profit. Settlement Assistance and Family Support Services (RGPFCGA) requires committed volunteers to help in delivering different need based programs and services to our community, organize special events such as South Asian Heritage Day/Asian Heritage Day, Annual Gala Dinner and other fundraising events, and conduct Needs Assessment in the community and many worthwhile activities. It is a great opportunity to volunteer in RGPFCGA.
Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity and is intended to promote good or improve human quality of life. In return, this activity produces a feeling of self-worth and respect; without financial gain. Volunteering is also renowned for skill development, socialization, and fun. It is also intended to make contacts for possible employment. Many volunteers are specifically trained in the areas they work, such as settlement services, organizing special events, helping in community workshops and info sessions, managing reception desk etc.

Volunteer Development Program (VDP) – RGPFCGA
This program is designed to yield benefits to the volunteers, organization and the community.
The VDP encompasses planning tool to help the volunteers understand the tasks involved, skills required, other important details about the job and accomplishments to be achieved. The policy on VDP developed by our Volunteer Coordinator on recruitment, interview, placement, and supervision and evaluation mechanism is the guiding program outline for RGPFCGA Volunteer Development Program.
The VDP has an effective training program to enhance the skills, knowledge and behaviour which would be essential for job performance and is directed towards practical learning, experiential, and tailored to the individual needs of the volunteer.
The supervision and evaluation are regularly conducted to know that the volunteer is fulfilling their role effectively and the volunteer’s jobs are affirmed and recognized within the organization. This program was supported by Ontario Trillium Foundation and now sustained by a Volunteer Development Associate position funded by the City of Toronto Employment and Social Services division under Investing in Neighbourhood Initiatives.
